Connecting the Community and Defending the Arts

We (the Connect Coworking staff) are really passionate about connecting with our members and connecting with our local community. One thing that is really cool about our coworking space is how much our own members are passionate about that too!

The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona (formerly known as The Tucson Pima Arts Council), is a 501(c)3 funding agency that we are so proud to have office out of our space. In the wake of an unknown future for the arts, as defunding of the NEA, NEH, and Public Broadcasting are a possibility, The Arts Foundation has created a project that gives the community a voice.

Whilst visiting City Council Meetings and soon to be attending the Arts Congress at the State Capitol Tuesday, March 14th, the Arts Foundation will be taking these postcards written by the community stating the importance of the arts! How neat is that? They’ll be reading and representing the voices of many to government officials and legislatures. Also with this they have created a GoFundMe page to aid in their efforts of arts awareness, learning, and advocacy. “It’s really important for us to have this conversation with the community and show our leaders why the arts are integral to a communities growth and health. The arts touch everything,” said Linda Rico, Digital Media Marketing and Communications Manager for the Foundation.

If you’re interested in filling out one of these post card’s and sharing your voice for the arts, taking part in this project put on by The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona, feel free to stop by Connect Coworking! We’ll have a stack here in the lobby waiting for you.
